GREENE-GRETZINGER LAW OFFICE, LLC

Goals

Of the Greene-Gretzinger Law Office, LLC

Quality Legal Advice and Consultation to a Diverse Clientele:  I opened my private law practice, Greene-Gretzinger Law Office, LLC, in the fall of 2007, with several goals in mind.  The first goal and my highest priority, is to provide quality legal advice and consultation to a diverse clientele, using the wealth of knowledge and experience I have gained over my past 16 years of practicing law in the unique and challenging world of Indian Country.  The remainder of my goal statement does not reflect a priority; but rather, attempts to set forth a clear statement of what I hope to do with my practice.

Protection and Promotion of Tribal Sovereignty:  While serving as Tribal Attorney, I gained insight and understanding into what few practicing attorneys are ever privileged to experience: the inner-workings of the sovereign Indian Nations that continue to grow and thrive within these United States.  That insight has led me to one goal about which I feel very strongly:  the protection and promotion of tribal sovereignty.  Through my practice, I hope to continue representing Tribes within my areas of expertise (see resume for details of experience); however, I believe that my greatest contribution to tribal sovereignty can be working with businesses new to Indian Country, businesses that have something to offer Tribes, but that may require guidance in understanding the jurisdictional issues unique to Indian Country, and the sovereignty that Tribes possess.  Failure to properly understand or appreciate either of these can lead to unfortunate consequences and missed opportunities for both the business and the Tribe.

Assist Individuals in Planning for the Unexpected and the Inevitable:   Life is full of uncertainties between birth and the final certainty of death.  Failure to plan one's estate, from power of attorney and health care documents, to a final disposition of one's estate through a will or trust, can lead to loss of dignity, loss of assets and unnecessary strife among surviving family after death.  Watching these scenarios play out in different ways with different lives over the years has convinced me that through the practice of law, particularly estate planning, I can assist individuals and families achieve some measure of confidence that their affairs will be taken care of if they are temporarily incapacitated and that their estates will be administered after death according to their express wishes.  I choose to practice in estate planning also, because it tends to be weighted toward an aging population and I am firmly committed to addressing, as part of my practice and to the extent possible, the growing issues affecting this nation's aging and elderly population.

Minimize Conflict in Problem Solving:  From my earliest days as a practicing attorney, I recognized that conflicts are often escalated by litigation, creating not only more financial cost to the parties involved, but also more emotional cost.  Experience has confirmed this position.  My goal is to assist clients in creative problem solving and alternative dispute resolution when appropriate and to provide sound legal advice and strategy when those techniques are not appropriate.
